Film in Pre-Production

WIFE. MOTHER. WARRIOR.

About the Film

In the Midwestern region of Nigeria, lies the great Benin Kingdom, ruled by the powerful Oba (King). The Kingdom was known for its rich culture, customs, and traditions, but it was also a place where women were often overlooked, and their voices silenced. However, amidst this patriarchal society, there was one woman who stood out - Queen Idia.

Born as the only child of her parents, Idia's destiny was already written in the stars. Unfortunately, tragedy struck even before her birth as her father passed away just weeks before she was born. And within moments of her arrival into the world, her mother also breathed her last breath. With no one to call her own, Idia was taken in by her uncle, who raised her as his own.

From a young age, it was evident that Idia possessed extraordinary qualities. She was not only beautiful, but she also had a fearless and strong spirit, which was only enhanced by the mystical powers she possessed. Despite being a woman in a male-dominated society, Idia's ultimate goal was to make a difference in her Kingdom.

However, her journey to achieve her goal was not an easy one. She had to contend with the strict customs and traditions of the land, which often stifled the voices of women. Moreover, she also had to navigate through the treacherous waters of her co-wife, Ohonmi, who saw her as a threat.

Throughout the film, we witness the challenges and obstacles that Idia faces as she strives to present women's matters in the Royal Court of the Oba and put an end to the cruel practice of killing the Kings' mothers. Her ultimate goal was to attain the highest position a woman could hold in the Kingdom - Iyoba (Mother of the King and Kingdom).

But Idia is not one to back down easily. She uses every weapon in her arsenal - her sharp wit, her fearless guts, her physical strength, and her mystical powers, to fight for what she believes in. And at the core of her determination is the love of a mother, as she also fights for the safety and future of her own son.

In the end, Idia's resilience and determination pay off. She not only achieves her goal of becoming the Iyoba, but she also sets a precedent for women in her Kingdom. Her legacy lives on as a symbol of strength, courage, and the power of a mother's love.
